Uvita is known for having some of the best luxury hotels in Costa Rica including Oxygen Jungle Villas, Kura Hotel, and Art Villas which is what made me want to go to the area. For the amount of time we’d be staying in Uvita, those places were out of budget but I was determined to find something similar. I wanted luxury on a budget and found that with Escal Acres.
PERFECT FOR A SECLUDED GETAWAY
Picture breathtaking views of the pacific coast, toucans in the trees, a sandstone pool, and the most picturesque sunsets every night. Escal Acres is a new boutique hotel located between Uvita and Dominical, with two units available to rent. We stayed in the 2-bedroom unit overlooking the pool. Not only does Escal Acres offer a cozy and romantic atmosphere, but it’s perfect for those looking for a secluded, relaxing getaway. The property is also well landscaped, creating endless places to have a photo shoot.
Because the location is so secluded, I highly recommend cooking for most of your trip. The kitchen is stocked with cooking supplies (doesn’t include seasoning), and for an extra cost, Mariah, the owner, will go grocery shopping for you.
HOW TO GET TO ESCAL ACRES
To get to the property, you will need a 4×4 car. We decided not to rent a car for this trip, and we were so happy we didn’t the minute our taxi started driving up the mountain to Escal. Let me tell you, the drive up is hugely steep and bumpy. The road isn’t super wide, so unless you have a ton of experience driving up steep mountains, I recommend getting a taxi for the entire trip. All taxi rides are $20 one way.

JUST KEEP SWIMMING
A highlight of Escal Acres is the incredible pool. We swam every day of our trip; we couldn’t get enough of it. Unlike most hotel pools, this one was pretty deep, which is excellent for those who love swimming. Half of the pool was about 5ft, and the deep end was probably 8ft to 9ft. The pool also has lights meaning you can swim in it at night.
DINING NEARBY
Overlooking the jungle, Scala Restaurant is honestly the only place you need to eat in Uvita. It is located on the same mountain as Escal Acres making it a short 10-minute drive. Again the road is steep, so I wouldn’t recommend walking to the restaurant unless you are super active/fit.
Scala is delicious, and that’s an understatement. I am still thinking of the octopus risotto we had here. Everything we got was so delicious, but I recommend getting the octopus risotto, wagyu pizza, and salted caramel cheesecake.
There was also a Jolly Roger bar on the mountain between Scala and Escal Acres. We didn’t have the chance to try it, but it came highly recommended by Mariah.

I highly recommend staying here with your significant other if you’re looking for an intimate atmosphere where you can enjoy a peaceful getaway and beautiful views. However, the spacious rooms, the sandstone pool, and luxurious Costa Rican vibes make it a great option for girl’s trips, solo travelers, or couples trips.
