Choosing where to stay in Memphis can shape your entire trip, especially if it’s your first time visiting. Do you stay near Beale Street? Downtown? Midtown? Somewhere close to the National Civil Rights Museum?
For my Memphis trip, I stayed at ARRIVE Memphis, a boutique hotel in the South Main Arts District, and honestly, the location made so much sense for the kind of trip I wanted: music, civil rights history, good food, walkable streets, and easy access to some of the city’s most important cultural landmarks.
If you’re planning a first-time visit to Memphis and trying to figure out whether ARRIVE Memphis is the right hotel for you, here’s my honest review — including what I loved, what to know before booking, and why South Main is one of the best areas to stay in Memphis.
What Is ARRIVE Memphis?
ARRIVE Memphis is a 62-room boutique hotel in the South Main Arts District of downtown Memphis, part of the Palisociety brand. It leans into a cool, design-forward, slightly industrial aesthetic that fits the neighborhood, which is full of galleries, local shops, and good food. The building has real character (it formerly housed part of the Memphis College of Art), and there are on-site spots including a lobby bar, a bakery, and a restaurant, so you don’t have to go far when you don’t feel like it.
The Location: Walkable and Right Across From History
This was the part that sold me. ARRIVE sits in the heart of South Main, which means you’re within walking distance of great restaurants and the district’s easy, artsy energy. But the detail that matters most, especially for the kind of trip I was on, is that it’s right across the street from the National Civil Rights Museum.
If the Civil Rights Museum is the main reason you’re visiting Memphis, I can’t recommend this location enough. On our museum morning, we ate breakfast and walked straight across the street. There’s also a trolley stop right out front if you want to get around without driving. You’ll still want a car or rideshare for Stax, Sun Studio, and Graceland, since those are spread out, but for downtown, you’re perfectly placed.
From ARRIVE Memphis, you’re near:
- The National Civil Rights Museum at the Lorraine Motel
- Beale Street
- Central BBQ
- Catherine & Mary’s
- Hive Bagel & Deli
- Downtown Memphis restaurants and bars
- The South Main Arts District
- The Mississippi Riverfront
For a first-time Memphis visitor, that location matters. You can build a whole weekend itinerary around this part of the city without constantly feeling like you’re running from one end of Memphis to the other.

ARRIVE Memphis Rooms: Cozy, Well-Lit, and Thoughtful
The design is modern, with a boutique, slightly eclectic feel and full of natural light. I loved my room! A few things stood out:
The lighting was immaculate. I know that sounds like a small thing, but anyone who’s ever been stuck in a hotel room lit like a parking garage knows how much it matters. The lighting here was warm and flattering, making the whole space feel good.
The beds were genuinely cozy. Comfortable enough that I slept well, which isn’t a given when I travel.
The minibar actually had snacks you wanted to eat. Not the sad, overpriced afterthoughts you usually find. A small detail that tells you the hotel is paying attention.
A full-length mirror! I need more hotels to get with the program and have full-length mirrors in the room.
The Service: The Eileen Connection
I have to shout out the front desk. The woman who checked me in was so sweet, and in a funny twist, her name was also Eileen. We instantly bonded over sharing a name and over all the creative ways people have managed to mispronounce it over the years. It was a small, warm, human moment, and it set the tone for the whole stay. That kind of genuine hospitality is exactly what you hope for at a boutique hotel and don’t always get.
On-Site Food & Drinks at ARRIVE Memphis
One of the perks of a hotel like this is not having to leave when you don’t want to. ARRIVE has a lobby bar, an in-house bakery, and a restaurant on the property, so you’ve got easy options for a morning pastry, a cocktail after a long day of museums, or a casual bite without having to plan anything. It made the stay feel self-contained in the best way.
Hustle & Dough
Hustle & Dough is the in-house bakery at ARRIVE Memphis. This is a great perk if you like having coffee or pastries nearby before starting your day.
For me, having a hotel with an easy morning option is always a plus, especially on a packed itinerary where you’re trying to get to museums or tours early.
Bar Hustle
Bar Hustle is the hotel’s intimate lobby bar. It’s a nice option if you want a cocktail before dinner or a low-key nightcap without going back out.
This is especially helpful if you’re traveling solo or just don’t feel like navigating nightlife after a long day.
Longshot
Longshot is located downstairs and offers food, drinks, and beer, as well as shuffleboard. It gives the hotel a more social feel and makes it easy to have a relaxed night without a full plan.
