How to Get Stunning Photos in Marrakech, Morocco
Marrakech is one of the most photogenic cities in the world, and it’s also one of the hardest places to get a good photo on your own. The souks are crowded, the light shifts fast, and navigating the medina while also trying to art-direct yourself is a lot. Trust me, I tried.
So my boyfriend and I did something we’d never done before on a trip: we booked a professional photoshoot.

How I found our Marrakech Photographer
My go-to hack for finding photographers abroad is to see who other creators and hosted group trips are using. Their portfolios don’t lie. For Morocco specifically, I found our photographer through Airbnb Experiences, which is one of my favorite platforms for this because the reviews are real and the booking process is simple. This is the exact tour: Marrakech Medina Photoshoot Tour by @marrakech_photoshoots, and he did not disappoint.
Other platforms worth checking: Flytographer and Viator both have strong photography experience options in Marrakech as well.
Marrakech photoshoot experience
The shoot lasted about an hour and a half, and we covered a lot of ground. Our photographer took us through tucked-away corners of the souks that I never would have found on my own. That alone was worth it. No fighting crowds for a clear shot, no handing your phone to a stranger and hoping for the best.
The photos came out better than anything we’d taken ourselves the entire trip. And for me and my boyfriend, who realized after five years together that we have tons of videos but almost no actual photos of us, this was long overdue.

Why this works especially well in Marrakech
The medina’s narrow lanes and layered architecture create incredible natural framing, but you need someone who knows where the light hits and when. A local photographer has that knowledge. They also know which vendors in the souks are used to shoots, which helps you relax and actually be present instead of anxious.
Quick Tips for Booking:
- Book in advance, especially during peak travel months. Good photographers fill up fast.
- Look at their portfolio before committing. You want to see photos of people who look like you so you know they know how to shoot you.
- Communicate your vibe ahead of time: candid, editorial, romantic, whatever fits.
Whether you’re a solo traveler, going with a partner, or traveling with a group, a photoshoot is one of the best investments you can make on a Morocco trip. Come back with images that actually do the destination justice.
Do your research, read the reviews, and let someone else capture your essence.
