A Lit Girls Trip To Curaçao: 6-day Itinerary

Bon Bini! Trust me; you need to consider Curaçao for your next girls’ trip. This Dutch Caribbean island off the coast of Venezuela is the perfect destination for those looking to relax during the day and party till the sun comes up at night. If you’ve ever wanted to go to Aruba without American tourism, Curaçao is your spot. Besides the turn-up, what I loved about this island was how multicultural it is. Everyone there spoke at least 3 to 4 languages: Dutch, Spanish, English, and the native language, Papiamentu.

Curaçao has all the elements that make up an unforgettable girls’ trip: beautiful beaches, impressive villas, Instagram-worthy restaurants, and for my single ladies, attractive men who are very flirty. My trip was six days, but if you’re short on time, you could do a lot in 4 days to explore Curaçao.

If you’re thinking of visiting and need some help planning, check out my 6-day itinerary below.

HOW TO GET AROUND

There were six of us in total, so we hired a private driver for the entirety of the trip. We booked through Luxury Taxi Service. Ask for Shurella or Wendel. It was $100/day.

DAY 1 – FRIDAY

We landed in Curaçao around 3 pm, so we kept this day chill as we were all tired from flying. We checked into Villa Nostalgia in the Jan Thiel neighborhood. Villa Nostalgia has four bedrooms and four bathrooms. It’s an open floor plan, with the living room opening to the backyard pool area. It was breathtaking. It’s also conventionally located: the grocery store was a four-minute walk, and the beach was a seven-minute walk. If you decide to stay in the Jan Thiel area, pack outlet adapters and have a language translator app on your phone! The area is big on Dutch tourism, so everything is tailored for the Dutch. We weren’t told this until we arrived.

For dinner, we went to St. Tropez Ocean Club. The girls loved their drinks, and the filet mignon was delicious. St. Tropez is a calm introduction to the nightlife of Curaçao and how flirty the men there are.

DAY 2 – SATURDAY

Fully rested and ready for vacation, we decided to swim in the pool as our private chef for the day made us brunch. We booked with BC Private Chef. Brandon, the company’s chef and CEO, was fantastic and gave us all the tea on Curaçao. His food slapped, especially his famous Spanish scrambled eggs.

We then walked to Jan Thiel Beach. This place was interesting. Remember how I said the area is tailored to white Dutch tourism? Well, it’s very apparent at Jan Thiel Beach. This was the only place we were all pretty uncomfortable during a vacation. The Dutch stare a lot. And they act like they’ve never seen a group of beautiful Black women before. This group of older white Dutch women even had the audacity to ask to take a picture of us…from behind. Yup, she asked for a picture of our butts and was surprised when we said hell no. I’d avoid this beach if you can.

For dinner, Brandon cooked us a four-course meal. It started with a caesar salad, followed by tostones with a creole sauce and chicken. The main dish was mashed potatoes with almond-encrusted salmon. And for dessert, blueberry cheesecake. Everything was sooo good!

We couldn’t end the night without going out to a party. Brandon and his assistant Nazir recommended Emporio nightclub, and booooy, did we have a blast. Emporio plays a mixture of reggaeton, soca, and dancehall. 10/10 recommend.

DAY 3 – SUNDAY

What’s a girls’ trip without a boat day? We booked with Bluefinn Charters. It included snorkeling, a premium open bar, and lunch. The snorkeling was incredible, and we got to see a shipwreck underwater. The boat ride lasted about 4 to 5 hours.

Please wear motion sickness patches, as the water is a little rough. One of the girls who had never gotten seasick before did get pretty sick. Don’t let that be you.

We headed to dinner pretty late this night. Many Curaçao restaurants close around 8-9, so keep that in mind. We went to Ocean Drive restaurant since their kitchen is open till midnight. The sweet teriyaki wings and virgin mojito were bangers.

From there, we went to Madero Beach Club. Madero is a must-see if you go to Curaçao. They are only open at night on Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday. Madero was so much fun and had such a vibe. The party is literally on the beach with reggaeton, dancehall, American music, and house music.

DAY 4-MONDAY

This was a very chill pool day for us. To have a more relaxing day, we scheduled in-house massages with RH Massage Therapy for the day.

DAY 5 – TUESDAY

It was our last full day in Curaçao, and my best friend’s birthday was approaching, so we had to fit many things in. But first, a COVID test. When writing this blog post, to reenter the U.S., you have to get a COVID test one day before you fly back. We got our test done at Avila Beach Hotel for $30. We got results back within an hour. Get the test done really early in the morning to enjoy the rest of your day.

After our test, we finally got to do the Seatrek excursion. This is also a must-do in Curaçao! Experience low gravity walking on the seafloor at Pier Mari Pampoen. You’ll walk through the coral banks and feed the fish for an hour. No swimming experience is needed!

From there, we explored the colorful streets of Wilmestead and saw the famous Queen Emma Bridge.

To end the night, we went to Fort Nassau for dinner. The ambiance was top-tier, and the food was even better. For an appetizer, I got the homemade pumpkin ravioli in truffle sauce without the crisp Coppa Stagionata ham. My main course was the grilled lamb chops and mint-parmesan gremolata with double-fried baked potato and mixed mushrooms in a roasted garlic sauce.

We planned on partying one last time, but pretty much everything was closed for Tuesday night. Many people recommended Mr. Porter and Bar P, but there weren’t any Black people when we arrived. I wouldn’t recommend going there for my melanated folks.

DAY 6 – WEDNESDAY

The trip came to an end. We got one last swim in before heading to the airport.

As mentioned, if you’re short on time, you could genuinely enjoy Curaçao in four days. So, what would my four-day itinerary look like?

Day 1 – Friday | Check in hotel & get settled, St. Tropez Beach club, Night swim at villa

Day 2 – Saturday | Private chef brunch, Seatrek Excursion, Chill at the beach, Private chef dinner, Emporio

Day 3 – Sunday | Get a COVID test, Boat day, Fort Nassau for dinner, Madero Beach Club to party

Day 4 – Monday | Fly back home

Curaçao Cost Breakdown

Roundtrip flight from DC = $120.30

Before you get too excited, this ticket wasn’t 120.30 total; that’s just how much I paid out of pocket, lol. The total ticket was around $600, but I had a $200 travel credit with American Airlines, and I used about 30,000 points from my Chase Sapphire Preferred card to cover the rest. Because I could only use the travel credit directly with American Airlines, I had to buy two separate tickets to use the travel credit (on the American Airlines’ website) and points (through the Chase Ultimate Rewards portal).

Food = $293

All the food in Curaçao was delicious and pretty cheap. My most expensive meal was $85, which included a mocktail, an appetizer, and lamb chops.

Villa = $275/each

We stayed at Villa Nostalgia in the Jan Thiel neighborhood. Villa Nostalgia has four bedrooms and four bathrooms. It’s an open floor plan, with the living room opening up to the backyard pool area. It was absolutely breathtaking. It’s also very conventionally located: the grocery store was a four-minute walk, and the beach was a seven-minute walk.

Excursion = $120/each

We did a Seatrek excursion. This is a must-do in Curaçao! Experience low gravity walking on the seafloor at Pier Mari Pampoen. You’ll walk through the coral banks and feed the fish for an hour. No swimming experience is needed!

Boat Day = $110/each

We booked with Bluefinn Charters. It included snorkeling, a premium open bar, and lunch. The snorkeling was incredible, and we got to see a shipwreck underwater. The boat ride lasted about 4 to 5 hours.

At-home massages = $65/each

Transportation = $100/each

We hired a private driver for the entirety of the trip. We booked through Luxury Taxi Service. Ask for Shurella or Wendel.

COVID test = $30/each

TOTAL = $1053.30

I hope this is helpful! If you’d like to see my video recap, check out my Curaçao highlight on Instagram!
